24+ Advanced Learning Loans - Newsflash

Learning and Funding Information Letter

14 June 2013

This is for the attention of Learning Provider administrators for 24+ Advanced Learning Loans

Since the launch of the online application in early April, learners have been able to apply for the 24+ Advanced Learning Loan. Before the learner makes their application, Providers are required to issue the learner with a completed Learning and Funding Information Letter. This gives the learner key information about the Provider and course, without which the learner will be unable to complete the application for the loan.

SLC continue to monitor the number of on-line applicants currently sitting at "Data Entry Incomplete" within the Customer Portal. Analysis shows they exit at the point where they are asked for details on their course and loan. This would suggest that they have yet to receive/not received the Learning and Funding Information Letter, or they have received the letter and not understood what it is for, to allow them to complete the necessary information on the application.

As a result, we have made some changes to the on-line application.

The learner will see a new question on the introduction page asking them if they have their Learning and Funding Information Letter. They are able to select a link to see a sample letter. If the learner confirms they do have the Learning and Funding Information Letter, they will continue through the application as normal.

If the learner answers that they don't have the letter, they will be taken to an Exit page which asks them why, with 5 options to select from;

I don't have an offer to start a further education course yet

This will advise the learner that they need an offer of a place on a course before making the application and provides a link to the National Career Services website.

I have an offer to start a further education course, but haven't received the letter

This will advise the learner to contact their college or trainer organisation to get the letter.

I have received the letter, but don't have it with me now

This will advise the learner that the letter contains the information that they will need to complete the application, and to continue with their application when they have the letter with them.

I am a higher education student in the wrong application form

This will take them to My Account page where they can select the higher education application form.

I'm previewing the online tool in advance of applying for a loan (or helping someone else with their application)

This will advise that this is not a preview facility and that the learner cannot continue without the letter.

If the learner does proceed to the page which asks about their provider and course, they will be asked to provide the UKPRN. If they don't have this, a link 'Don't have this number?' will take them to the options listed above.

To allow the learner to complete their application, we would appreciate your co-operation in ensuring that you have provided them with a completed Learning and Funding Information Letter. If you have used another title on this letter, please advise your learners that this is what they should use when asked for a Learning and Funding Information Letter.
