Advanced Learner Loan bulletin – February 2022


January performance management review point

Some of you may have been awarded growth as part of the second and final Advanced Learner Loan performance management review point for academic year 2021/22. 

The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) will send the first growth file on 9 March. This will be for providers that have digitally signed and returned their updated contract by 3 March.


Version 3 of the Advanced Learner Loans funding and performance management rules 2021 to 2022

This updated document sets out version 3 of the Advanced Learner Loans funding and performance rules for academic year 2021/22. Paragraphs 19-26 now include details on the expansion of the National Skills Fund Level 3 adult offer eligibility criteria from 1 April 22. You can view the full document on GOV.UK.


Repayment threshold

The Department for Education (DfE) has confirmed that the repayment threshold for post-2012 (plan 2) loans will remain £27,295 for the period of 6 April 2022 to 5 April 2023.

The interest rate thresholds for post-2012 (plan 2) loans will be as follows:

  • the lower threshold will remain at £27,295
  • the higher threshold will remain at £49,130
