Advanced Learner Loan bulletin - August 2023

Loan allocation monitoring

Please remember to monitor your loan allocation and make sure you do not exceed it. If you exceed your allocation the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) will ask us to block the approval of any new applications.

You can use the financial reports on the Learning Provider Portal to monitor your loan allocation. You can find these reports in our Learning Provider Portal user guide.

In September 2023 and January 2024, you'll be assessed for growth through two desk-based reviews. If you meet certain criteria your funds will increase. However, if you do not meet the criteria and have an exceptional case, you should raise this with your ESFA territorial team lead before the review point. Requests for exceptional cases must be with ESFA by 11 September.

You can find the Advanced Learner Loans funding rules 2023 to 2024 on GOV.UK.

Student loan repayment

Learners starting courses on, or after, 1 August 2023 will be subject to Plan 5 repayment plan. Once your learners have completed their course, they will repay when their income is over £480 a week, £2,083 a month or £25,000 a year.

You can find further information about repayment and interest rates for both current and new learners on our Repayment - Advanced Learner Loan quick guide in the supporting materials section of our website.

LP portal enhancements

Based on your feedback we've recently added the following enhancements to the Learning Provider Portal:

  • We've added a column to the Learner Search results screen to identify the ‘Application State’ to make applications easier to be identified by work stage. You'll no longer have to enter learner applications individually or export results to see the work stage.
  • On the Application State History page we've removed the ‘Effective To’ column and renamed the description of the ‘Effective From’ column to 'Submitted Date' to clarify the meaning of the dates displayed.
You can find the full list of enhancements here.

Housekeeping and security

Please remember to expire the accounts of any users who no longer need access to the system. This helps to maintain the security of the portal and learner data.

You can find more information on how to do this in the Learning Provider Portal user guide.
